2012 Fantasy Football Mock Draft - Point-Per-Reception (PPR) Scoring

Scoring: This mock draft is based on leagues that use point-per-reception (PPR) scoring.  Passing
touchdowns are worth four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six points.  One point is
earned per 25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards.  In addition, one point is earned per
reception.

Our 2012 Fantasy Football Mock Draft (Standard Scoring)

Pick (Overall)
Contributor (Team)
Player, Pos., Team
1 (25).
Sean Beazley (Team 1)
Jamaal Charles, RB, Chiefs
Like in our standard-scoring mock, Sean has cornered the RB-coming-off-a-torn-ACL market.  Once again,
he finds himself again with a team that drafts Peterson and Charles in the second and third rounds,
respectively.  Elite talents, when healthy, but double the risk.

2 (26).
Kevin Hanson (Team 1)
Greg Jennings, WR, Packers
By not drafting my second running back here, that means the soonest I'll draft my RB2 is pick 47.  That
worries me, but I wasn't crazy about any of the backs still on the board at this spot and decided to go with a
guy that has consistently been a top-10 fantasy receiver in an elite offense.  In fact, my debate here was
between Jennings, a few of the other top receivers still on the board and Matthew Stafford.

3 (27).
Brendan Donahue (Team 1)
Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions
In an offense that slings it more than any other, a healthy Stafford showed us what he's capable of -- 5,037
passing yards and 41 touchdowns.  As I mentioned in the comments for the previous pick, I was strongly
considering taking Stafford one pick earlier.

4 (28).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 1)
Victor Cruz, WR, Giants
While Cruz is not (or, more accurately, won't be) a one-year wonder, it's virtually impossible that he repeats
his 2011 level of success.  Setting the single-season franchise record for receiving yards (1,536), Cruz had
five receptions of 68 yards or more last year.

5 (29).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 2)
Steven Jackson, RB, Rams
Coincidentally, Jackson is the 29th pick in this mock after going 29th in the standard-scoring mock so here's
some cut-and-paste from the last mock: "... He's the 14th running back off the board and my 14th-ranked
fantasy running back.  That said, I'm bit leery of him breaking down at some point.  Jackson, who turns 29
before the start of the season, leads all active running backs in rushing attempts (2,138) and the next guy --
Willis McGahee (1,790) -- isn't even close.  To be clear, I don't expect Jackson to break down
this year, but I
wouldn't want him to be my RB1, just in case."

6 (30).
Brendan Donahue (Team 2)
Marshawn Lynch, RB, Seahawks
The earlier you draft before the start of the season, the greater the possibility that something unplanned can
happen as we completed Round 3 of this mock before the news of
Lynch's DUI arrest became public.  It
seems likely that Lynch will be suspended.  [If he's not, I like the pick here.]

7 (31).
Kevin Hanson (Team 2)
Cam Newton, QB, Panthers
The debate for this pick came down to Newton or Julio Jones and it was close.  I worry about a huge decline
in rushing touchdowns and his passing numbers were much worse in the second half last year than the first
half.  That said, Newton is a unique talent and became the first player in league history to finish with at least
4,000 passing yards and 700 rushing yards in the
same season.

8 (32).
Sean Beazley (Team 2)
Fred Jackson, RB, Bills
If Jackson produces anywhere close to how he produced pre-injury last year, this is a steal.  Correction:
STEAL!  Unfortunately, Jackson is a year older (now 31) and the split between Jackson and C.J. Spiller will be
"
closer to 50-50" if you believe Chan Gailey's comments this offseason.

9 (33).
Sean Beazley (Team 3)
Brandon Marshall, WR, Bears
Think quick: After Wes Welker, which receiver has the most receptions over the past five years?  Of course,
asking such a question underneath the pick of Marshall gives the answer away.  But I'm not sure everyone
would guess Marshall first otherwise.  Over the past five years, here are the leaders in receptions: Wes
Welker (554), Marshall (474), Reggie Wayne (472), Roddy White (471) and Larry Fitzgerald (463).  Reunited
with Jay Cutler, most expect an uptick in production, but Marshall already has five straight 1,000-yard seasons
and lots of catches.

10 (34).
Brendan Donahue (Team 3)
Julio Jones, WR, Falcons
Julio Jones is one of those players I want to be on all of my teams this year.  Damn you, Brendan.  If I paid you
anything to contribute to the site, I'd cut your pay.  Screw it, I'm cutting it by 20 percent anyways just to send a
message.  Did you learn your lesson?  Seriously though, Jones has the potential to
really break out this year.
Only 12 receivers averaged more yards per game than Jones (73.8), but he was really on a roll at the end of
the season.  During the final four games, Jones finished with 20 receptions for 393 yards and six TDs.  With
the disparity in targets last year between White (181) and Jones (96), you know Jones will get a lot more
looks this year.

11 (35).
Kevin Hanson (Team 3)
Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers
After missing out on Jones, I was less than thrilled to take Wallace, especially considering he and Pittsburgh
have yet to reach a long-term deal and it's possible he holds out at least at the start of training camp without a
deal.  Glass-half-full view: Wallace has 2,450 yards and 18 touchdowns in the past two seasons combined.

12 (36).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 3)
Dez Bryant, WR, Cowboys
There's never a good domestic violence charge.  That said, it's even worse when the victim is your mother.
Bryant
was arrested on Monday for a domestic violence charge.  According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram,
Bryant "
hit her across the face with a ball cap, pulled her hair, tore her shirt and bra."  Other than that, he was
having a good offseason ... well, since the altercation outside a Miami nightclub in January.
