2012 Fantasy Football Mock Draft - Point-Per-Reception (PPR) Scoring

Scoring: This mock draft is based on leagues that use point-per-reception (PPR) scoring. Passing
touchdowns are worth four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six points. One point is
earned per 25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards. In addition, one point is earned per
reception.

For this mock draft, four EDSFootball.com contributors will draft for three teams per round
and we will exclude kickers and team defenses from this mock.
We will draft 12 rounds and I will include commentary for each of the 144 picks.

Ray Rice, RB, Ravens
|
Regardless of whether you take Rice, Foster or McCoy here, you're getting a stud running back. After those
top three backs, however, there is a significant drop-off as there are different risks associated with the next
tier of backs. Yet to miss a game in his first three seasons as a starter, Rice set career highs in rushing
yards (1,364), receiving yards (704) and touchdowns (15 total) in 2011. In those three seasons, he has had a
minimum of 1,220 rushing yards, 556 receiving yards and 63 receptions each season.

Kevin Hanson (Team 1)

Arian Foster, RB, Texans
|
After leading the NFL in rushing two seasons ago, Foster missed three regular-season games in 2011.
Despite missing three games, Foster ranked fifth in the NFL in rushing (1,224 yards) and second in yards per
game (94.2) behind Maurice Jones-Drew. In addition, Foster finished second among running backs in
receiving YPG (47.5) behind only Detroit's Jahvid Best. In 29 games over the past two seasons, Foster has
rushed for 2,840 yards and has 119 receptions for 1,221 yards. Plus, he has scored 30 touchdowns (26
rushing and four receiving) during that span. What's not to like?

LeSean McCoy, RB, Eagles
|
Although McCoy's receiving numbers dropped quite a bit, he had a breakout year in 2011. McCoy set career
highs in rushing yards (1,309) and scored a total of 20 touchdowns including a league-high 17 rushing TDs.

Dan Yanotchko (Team 1)

Ryan Mathews, RB, Chargers
|
Plenty of folks are skeptical about Mathews considering his lofty draft status (ADP) and his durability
concerns. Mathews has missed six games in his two seasons as a pro, but he had trouble staying healthy
back at Fresno State as well. Not only did Mathews set career highs in rushing yards (1,091), receptions (50)
and receiving yards (455) last year, Mike Tolbert, who had 19 rushing touchdowns in the past two years, is
now in Carolina. I think Mathews takes a huge step forward in 2012.

Calvin Johnson, WR, Lions
|
I can see Megatron going as high as No. 3 in a PPR draft. Last year, Johnson became only the second player
in NFL history to finish with 1,600-plus yards and 16-plus touchdowns in the same season. Counting the
playoff loss, Megatron showed how he could completely dominate games by having three 200-yard games in
his final four games of the season. Only two other players had at least one 200-yard game: Demaryius
Thomas and Wes Welker.

Aaron Rodgers, QB, Packers
|
Even with Drew Brees throwing for almost 5,500 yards and Cam Newton setting a rushing touchdown record
for quarterbacks, it was Rodgers, the league MVP, that led all NFL players in fantasy points last year.
Rodgers averaged nearly 310 passing yards per game, threw a franchise-record 45 touchdowns despite
sitting the season finale and has rushed for at least three touchdowns in each of his four years as a starter.

Chris Johnson, RB, Titans
|
I'm banking a bit on a bounce-back season from CJ1K. His contract dispute and holdout led to a slow start to
last season (even though he got paid) and he never really got it going except for a few games in the second
half. This year, Johnson is looking to add some weight/muscle and be more of a leader. Let's hope that
pays dividends.

Sean Beazley (Team 2)

Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jaguars
|
Jones-Drew is not thrilled about what he is owed over the final two years of his contract, but general manager
Gene Smith has said that he's not going to re-negotiate MJD's deal (and I can't blame him). While has been
highly productive as a workhorse back, no running back has more carries than Jones-Drew (954) over the
past three years. If there is a resolution to his contract dispute (either new deal or MJD vows to not hold out), I
would move him back up to being my No. 4 fantasy running back. Until then, it's too risky to take MJD over
guys like Mathews and Johnson.

Sean Beazley (Team 3)

Drew Brees, QB, Saints
|
In the standard-scoring mock, Brees slipped to 12th overall and I liked that pick. In a PPR league, where QBs
obviously don't get receptions (and the points that are earned for them), I would prefer to wait a little longer on
quarterback. If you go by the adage that you can't win (but you can lose) your league in the first round, then
Brees and the other stud quarterbacks are safe picks.

Tom Brady, QB, Patriots
|
Brady should have another huge year in 2012. After throwing for the second-most yards in league history last
year, Brady has a much-improved receiving corps at his disposal. The Pats added Brandon Lloyd, who has
flourished in Josh McDaniels' system, and Jabar Gaffney, who is coming off a career high in receiving yards.

Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals
|
At this spot, I debated Darren McFadden and Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is coming off his fourth 1,400-yard season
despite the Cardinals' quarterback woes. With McFadden's injury concerns, I figured I'd wait and hope he
was there on the way back.

Rob Gronkowski, TE, Patriots
|
Gronkowski set tight end records for receiving yards (1,327) and touchdowns (17) last year. Along with fellow
tight end Jimmy Graham and Megatron, Gronkowski was one of three players to finish last season with at
least 90 receptions, 1,300 receiving yards and double-digit touchdowns.
