2012 Fantasy Football Mock Draft (Standard Scoring)

Scoring: This mock draft is based on leagues that use standard scoring (i.e., not point-per-reception (PPR)
scoring).  Passing touchdowns are worth four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six
points.  In addition, one point is earned per 25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards.

Pick (Overall)
Contributor (Team)
Player, Pos., Team
1 (25).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 1)
A.J. Green, WR, Bengals
Green became the first rookie to finish with 1,000-plus receiving yards since Marques Colston did it several
years back.  To make the feat more impressive, Green did it with a rookie quarterback, rookie offensive
coordinator and a lockout-shortened offseason.  In other words, the sky's the limit for the uber-talented Green.

2 (26).
Kevin Hanson (Team 1)
Roddy White, WR, Falcons
Julio Jones would have joined Green as a rookie 1,000-yard receiver if injuries didn't force him to miss a few
games.  In fact, Jones may surpass White in production as early as this season.  What I do like about White,
however, is his consistency and how often Matt Ryan targets him.  White has 80-plus receptions and
1,100-plus yards in each of the past five seasons and no player was targeted as often as White (181) last
year.  Here's another great stat: Roddy White has never missed a regular-season game in his seven-season
career.  (Knock on wood.)

3 (27).
Sean Beazley (Team 1)
Jamaal Charles, RB, Chiefs
I expect the Chiefs to run the ball A LOT this year.  With Peyton Hillis and Charles, they may have two backs
with 200-plus carries.  Before Charles tore his ACL last year, he finished second in the NFL in rushing yards
in 2010, but he was second on the team in carries behind Thomas Jones.  Sean now has three running
backs on this team with McCoy, Peterson and Charles that he describes as being "three RBs who could
easily be in the top 5 at the end of the year."  With the lack of depth at running back, he would also have the
ability to dangle one of his three stud RBs as trade bait.

4 (28).
Brendan Donahue (Team 1)
Greg Jennings, WR, Packers
So far, this team has one quarterback (Aaron Rodgers), one running back (Trent Richardson) and now one
wide receiver (Jennings).  While Jordy Nelson broke out last year, Jennings is still the team's No. 1 receiver
and I expect him to be more productive than Nelson this season.  That said, I have both receivers inside my
top 10.

5 (29).
Brendan Donahue (Team 2)
Steven Jackson, RB, Rams
At this point, Jackson is a decent pick.  He's the 14th running back off the board and my 14th-ranked fantasy
running back.  That said, I'm bit leery of him breaking down at some point.  Jackson, who turns 29 before the
start of the season, leads all active running backs in rushing attempts (2,138) and the next guy -- Willis
McGahee (1,790) -- isn't even close.  To be clear, I don't expect Jackson to break down
this year, but I wouldn't
want him to be my RB1, just in case.

6 (30).
Kevin Hanson (Team 2)
Julio Jones, WR, Falcons
Although White has finished first or second in the NFL in targets in each of the past three seasons, the gap
between Jones (96) and White (181) will undoubtedly shrink this year.  Jones finished the season strong
(20-393-6 in final four games) and should truly break out this season if he can stay healthy.

7 (31).
Sean Beazley (Team 2)
Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers
Can Nelson duplicate last year's success?  While I have Nelson in my top 10 fantasy receivers, I think it's
unlikely that he exceeds last year's yardage (1,263) and touchdown (15) totals.  In the final two games of the
season (without Jennings on the field), Nelson racked up 22 percent of his season totals in receptions (15)
and yards (277) and one-third of his touchdowns (five).  Assuming good health for all of the team's receivers,
there are too many mouths to feed.

8 (32).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 2)
Darren Sproles, RB, Saints
Although Sproles had only 87 carries last season, he is clearly the Saints running back to own and finished
15th in yards from scrimmage (1,313) among all running backs last year.  While he's better in PPR formats,
he is still a solid RB2 in standard leagues, especially in a 12-team league.

9 (33).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 3)
Dez Bryant, WR, Cowboys
Bryant has the talent to be a top-five receiver, but what about the maturity?  Last offseason, Bryant made news
by getting himself thrown out of a Dallas-area mall and racking up bills that he (allegedly) did not pay.  This
offseason,
he has been more focused.  Bryant says that an injury suffered in Week 1 affected his conditioning
all season and it plays out in the stats.  Here are his splits from last year: 37-558-7 (before halftime) and
26-370-2 (after halftime).  With better conditioning this offseason, he could be poised for a breakout season.

10 (34).
Kevin Hanson (Team 3)
Victor Cruz, WR, Giants
Entering last season with no career receptions, Cruz set the franchise record for receiving yards (1,536) last
year.  He had some freaky plays (five receptions of 68 yards or more), but he displayed consistency on a
weekly basis.  From Week 3 to 17, Cruz had 74 receiving yards in 12 of 14 games.

11 (35).
Brendan Donahue (Team 3)
Brandon Marshall, WR, Bears
Especially in a PPR league, I like the volatile Marshall this season.  All three of his 100-reception seasons
came when he and Jay Cutler were in Denver.

12 (36).
Sean Beazley (Team 3)
Fred Jackson, RB, Bills
Bills coach Chan Gailey has said that the split between Jackson and C.J. Spiller is going to be as close to
"
50-50" as ever before.  If it's not (and closer to last year's pre-injury splits), Jackson could be a steal.
