2012 Fantasy Football Mock Draft (Standard Scoring)
| |
Scoring: This mock draft is based on leagues that use standard scoring (i.e., not point-per-reception (PPR) scoring). Passing touchdowns are worth four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six points. In addition, one point is earned per 25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards.

1 (121).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 1)
Andrew Luck, QB, Colts
Many view Luck as the best quarterback prospect since John Elway. Not only should the Colts trail often and need to throw this year, the Colts tried to put some weapons around Luck by drafting his collegiate teammate Coby Fleener, Clemson tight end Dwayne Allen, the John Mackey award recipient, etc. Luck has much more value in a dynasty league, but we have seen recently what rookie quarterbacks can do.

Kevin Hanson (Team 1)
Toby Gerhart, RB, Vikings
Regardless of the health and recovery of Peterson's knee, Gerhart is worth the pick here. If Peterson is not fully ready, Gerhart has upside as well.

Sean Beazley (Team 1)
Laurent Robinson, WR, Jaguars
Robinson parlayed a breakout season (career-high 858 yards and team-high 11 TDs) in Dallas into a big free-agent contract with the Jaguars. There are several concerns with Robinson going into this season, though: (1) Blaine Gabbert was one of the league's worst QBs in 2011, (2) Robinson has had difficulty staying healthy in the past and (3) his previous career highs were 37 receptions, 437 yards and two TDs.

Brendan Donahue (Team 1)
Kendall Wright, WR, Titans
Wright, the third receiver selected in this year's draft, was highly productive in college (led Baylor in receiving all four years) and early reports are that he's learning the Titans' offense quickly. I worry a bit about Britt's knee and, in turn, like Wright's upside from this spot.

Brendan Donahue (Team 2)
Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Steelers
This is a fair value for Mendenhall as the 48th RB off the board in this mock. It's likely that he begins the season on the PUP list and misses the first six games, but he has some potential to help fantasy owners down the stretch on a per-game basis, depending on his health.
| |
6 (126).
Kevin Hanson (Team 2)
Brent Celek, TE, Eagles
Along with a couple of other tight ends (Gresham and Tamme), Celek is one of the TEs likely to go outside of the top 10 at the position that I really like in 2012. Celek finished the season strong. In the final 10 games after the Eagles' bye, Celek had 49 receptions for 696 yards and four touchdowns. If his strong finish spills over into 2012, Celek will be a huge steal here.
| |
7 (127).
Sean Beazley (Team 2)
Vincent Brown, WR, Chargers
I like Meachem and Floyd this year, but if the Chargers had not added Meachem, Brown would have been poised for a breakout season. Even with Meachem, that's still possible, especially considering the durability concerns with Floyd and Meachem.
| |
8 (128).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 2)
Andy Dalton, QB, Bengals
Dalton is solid. With a full offseason and one of the league's best young receivers, Dalton should have an even better second year.
9 (129).
Dan Yanotchko (Team 3)
Owen Daniels, TE, Texans
Daniels has the potential to turn into a TE1 as the 15th tight end off the board.
| |
10 (130).
Kevin Hanson (Team 3)
Santana Moss, WR, Redskins
Lots of people are really down on Moss. Not me. I think he's being undervalued and he's reportedly in great shape. Although the Redskins have added Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan via free agency, they are, well, Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan. I still believe it's possible that Moss will be the team's No. 1 receiver this year and the upgrade at quarterback helps all of the team's receivers.
| |
11 (131).
Brendan Donahue (Team 3)
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Falcons
The Falcons are expected to give Turner a lighter workload this year and Rodgers should be the guy that benefits the most from that. Turner, who turned 30 years old this offseason, is coming off back-to-back seasons with 300-plus carries.
| |
12 (132).
Sean Beazley (Team 3)
Randy Moss, WR, 49ers
Moss is one of the players that I will most likely not draft in any leagues. He has some upside, because he is one of the greatest receivers of all time. But he's returning from a year of "retirement" following an incredibly disappointing season with three different teams before that and now joins a team that threw less than everyone other than the Broncos last year.
