2014 Fantasy Football Mock Draft, 1.0: Round 10
Mock Draft Start Date: Monday, May 12th
Mock Draft End Date: Saturday, May 24th
Scoring: This mock draft is based on re-draft leagues (2014 season only). Passing touchdowns are worth four points while rushing and receiving touchdowns are worth six points. In addition, one point is earned per 25 passing yards, 10 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards.
Here are Round 10 results (commentary from Kevin Hanson):
10.01 - Dan Yanotchko (Team 3): Dwayne Bowe, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
With a new quarterback and new coach, Bowe set five-year lows in receptions (57) and yards (673) and a career low in yards per reception (11.8) last season. Over his past eight games counting their playoff loss, however, Bowe had 39 receptions for 521 yards and four touchdowns, which equates to a full-season pace of 78/1,042/8.
While he may not produce at the 78/1,042/8 level in 2014, I think he comes closer to those numbers than last year's stat line.
10.02 - Brendan Donahue (Team 3): DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Houston Texans
Only one rookie receiver had more yards than Hopkins (802) last season: San Diego's Keenan Allen (1,046). I'd like Hopkins more if the quarterback situation were better, but Hopkins should build upon his rookie success in Year 2.
10.03 - Kevin Hanson (Team 3): Kyle Rudolph, TE, Minnesota Vikings
While he averaged more yards per game (30.8) and per reception (10.4) than he had in 2012, Rudolph posted a relatively disappointing line of 30/313/3 in the eight games he played. Going into the 2014 season, however, Rudolph has the potential to take a big step forward in a Norv Turner-led offense that typically features tight ends.

10.04 - Sean Beazley (Team 3): Carlos Hyde, RB, San Francisco 49ers
Hyde was my top-ranked running back heading into the draft, but his situation is less than ideal for a 2014 re-draft fantasy perspective. Not only will Frank Gore enter the season as the lead back, but they have other talented running backs on the roster. I'd prefer Jeremy Hill over Hyde for 2014 even though I prefer Hyde in dynasty formats.
10.05 - Sean Beazley (Team 2): Jeremy Hill, RB, Cincinnati Bengals
By drafting Hill, it would appear that The Law Firm's days in Cincy are numbered. Either way, I would expect him to get a sizable amount of touches behind Giovani Bernard. A big and powerful runner, Hill rushed for 2,156 yards (6.2 YPC) and 28 touchdowns on 345 carries over the past two seasons at LSU.
10.06 - Kevin Hanson (Team 2): Khiry Robinson, RB, New Orleans Saints
The third of three Saints running backs selected, Robinson has the potential to score more fantasy points than any in the group. There was a report that Parcells told coach Sean Payton: “Parcells called this week and said, ‘Sean what are you doing? You’ve got Curtis Martin right in front of your eyes, and you’re not doing anything with him. Give him the ball.’”
While it's (obviously) way too soon to induct Robinson into the Hall of Fame, it says a lot when Parcells compares a player to a Hall-of-Fame running back that produced for the coach. Robinson has an excellent combination of size, power and elusiveness.
10.07 - Brendan Donahue (Team 2): Lamar Miller, RB, Miami Dolphins
If I told you this time last year that Lamar Miller would go one pick after Khiry Robinson, you'd probably think I was crazy. With expectations of a breakout, Miller rushed 177 times for 709 yards (4.01 YPC) and two touchdowns and added 26 catches for 170 yards last year.
On a positive note, the Dolphins have taken steps to improve their offensive line by signing Branden Albert and Shelley Smith in free agency and drafting right tackle Ju'Wuan James in the first round. (Of course, James probably would have been available with their second-round pick.) Among the 81 guards graded by PFF last year, Smith ranked fourth in run blocking.
That said, the Dolphins also signed Knowshon Moreno to a one-year deal and I would expect Moreno to get at least as many snaps and touches as Miller this season.
10.08 - Dan Yanotchko (Team 2): Jarrett Boykin, WR, Green Bay Packers
In the Packers offense, there is always potential for the team's No. 3 wide receiver to be productive and Boykin was last year. In his second season, Boykin had 49 catches for 681 yards and three touchdowns. My biggest concern with Boykin is that the Packers drafted Fresno State's Davante Adams in the second round.
10.09 - Dan Yanotchko (Team 1): Martellus Bennett, TE, Chicago Bears
In his first with the Bears, Bennett finished as the 10th-highest scoring fantasy tight end and set career highs with 65 receptions for 759 yards and tied a previous career high of five touchdowns. Bennett is the 11th tight end off the board in this mock and the 11th-ranked tight end in my fantasy rankings.
10.10 - Kevin Hanson (Team 1): Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears
Despite being my QB13 in my rankings, Cutler has the potential to outperform that ranking. While Cutler missed several games, the tandem of Cutler and Josh McCown combined to throw for 4,450 yards and 32 touchdowns. Only four NFL teams had more last season. Not only do the Bears have the league's best wide receiver duo in Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, but Matt Forte is one of the league's best receivers out of the backfield.
10.11 - Brendan Donahue (Team 1): Marvin Jones, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
In his second season in the league, Jones took a big step forward with 51 receptions for 712 yards and 10 touchdowns. Going into 2014, Jones will have an excellent opportunity to improve on the receptions and yards totals as he is clearly the team's No. 2 receiver behind A.J. Green.
10.12 - Sean Beazley (Team 1): Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Carolina Panthers
On a roster otherwise devoid of talent in the wide receiver corps, there should be plenty of opportunity for Benjamin. Far from the fastest or most polished route-runner, Benjamin was blessed with something that cannot be coached — tremendous size (6-foot-5, 240 pounds, 34 7/8-inch arms). Benjamin's size and opportunity could allow him to flourish as a red-zone target in his rookie season.
