HOW WE ARRIVED AT OUR RANKINGS: The sources for our projections are ESPN, NFL.com and DailyDose.com's pre-season magazine 2008 statistical projections as well as Sportsline.com.
Stats used for DEFs are: INTs (2 pts), FR (2 pts), Sacks (1 pt), DEF/Return TDs (6 pts) and PTS allowed (7-13 ppg = 4 fantasy pts/game, 14-20 ppg = 1 fantasy pt/game, 21+ ppg = 0 pts/game).
So, for example, if one of the sources projected 15 INTs (30 pts), 15 FRs (30 pts), 25 sacks (25 pts), 4 DEF/RET TDs (24 pts) and 18 ppg allowed (16 pts) for a team defense in 2008, then the projection from that source for that team defense would be 125 points (30+30+25+24+16).
The process is repeated for each source and for defense. The theory is taking several expert opinions into consideration will result in a more meaningful projection.
Our average projection is simply an average of the values from all 4 sources. The High and Low represent the highest and lowest value included in the overall calculation. The range is the difference between the High and Low and is a measure of risk. The greater the range, the larger the difference in expectations for the fantasy player determined by the experts.
