Fantasy Football Sleepers 2020

In an era with around-the-year content available, perhaps there's no such thing as a fantasy football sleeper.

And if you asked 10 people to define "sleeper," it's likely that you would get 10 different definitions.

While there may not be an industry-accepted definition of sleepers, we define them here as players available (generally) in the double-digit rounds.

The players that have earned a spot on our list of 2020 fantasy football sleepers are currently available in the 10th round or later of half-PPR drafts done on Fantasy Football Calculator.

Here are 10 fantasy football sleepers to consider in your fantasy drafts (ADP in parenthesis):

QB - Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars (ADP: 175th pick)

While the Jags are the early favorites to win the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes, there is little competition for Minshew in 2020. As a rookie, Minshew threw for 3,271 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. An underrated aspect of his game is his rushing ability as Minshew averaged 5.1 YPC and gained 344 yards on the ground. Only four quarterbacks -- Lamar Jackson (1,206), Kyler Murray (544), Josh Allen (510) and Deshaun Watson (413) -- rushed for more.

NFL Mock Draft Roundups

We have created mock draft roundups for all teams (29, excluding the Rams, Seahawks and Texans) that currently have a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

As an example, here is our initial mock draft roundup for the Dallas Cowboys:

Rotoworld - Thor Nystrom (8/21)

27. Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan

Classic boom/bust scenario if Paye has played his last collegiate snap. The No. 1 athletic "Freak" on Bruce Feldman's list this fall, the 6-4, 271-pound Paye boasts an insane 6.37 second 3-cone, which would have topped all participants at the 2020 combine. Paye also has tested better than any defensive lineman or EDGE at the 2020 combine with a 4.57 forty and 4.15 pro shuttle time. Paye also owns a 34-inch vertical, 30 reps on the bench press, and a mind-blowing 11.3 in the 60-yard shuttle. Paye is extremely raw, more ball-of-clay-athlete than pure pass rusher at this time, but he still posted 50 tackles, 12.5 TFL and 6.5 sacks last season in his first year as a full-time starter, with a solid 77.8 PFF pass-rushing grade.

PFF - Mike Renner (8/19)

27. Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

The Cowboys are entering 2020 with a hope and a prayer at the cornerback position after losing Byron Jones in free agency. Surtain could change that. He was starting as a true freshman for the Tide back in 2018 and earned a 78.7 coverage grade that season. At 6-foot-2, 202 pounds, Surtain has an ideal size-and-length combination, but his lack of elite speed could drop him a bit.

The Draft Network - Kyle Crabbs (8/19)

26. Caden Sterns, S, Texas

Dallas has been flirting with upgrading safety for two years now between Earl Thomas and Jamal Adams. Neither turned out in their favor, so pegging a local prospect to play on the back end seems like the right move here. Sterns had a terrific freshman season and showed a strong nose for the football -- and with so much speed at linebacker in front of him, Sterns' lack of appeal as an alley filler can be appeased.

Robert Woods Fantasy Football Profile 2020

Leading up to the start of the 2020 NFL season, we will post 2020 Fantasy Football Profiles for several fantasy-relevant players.

In each of the past two seasons, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Robert Woods has finished with at least 1,249 yards from scrimmage (YFS).

The reason we reference YFS (and not receiving yards) is that Woods has a minimum of 17 rush attempts in each of the past two seasons and a total of 272 rushing yards over that span.

Per Pro Football Reference, there were only nine players with a minimum of 1,249 YFS in each of the past two seasons and six of them were running backs. The only receivers to do so in both 2018 and 2019 were Thomas, Julio Jones and Woods.

Higbee's breakout hurts one WR, not the other

Last December was kind to tight end Tyler Higbee, who posted five strong performances in his breakout month to lead all fantasy tight ends in fantasy production from Weeks 13 to 17.

In fact, the fourth-year tight end led the NFL in receiving yards (522) during that five-game stretch and only Christian McCaffrey (48) and Michael Thomas (45) had more receptions than Higbee.

While Higbee may have overshadowed his teammates, Robert Woods was (nearly) equally as productive.

Over that five-game stretch to close the season, Woods had 39 receptions for 471 yards and two touchdowns on 59 targets. Only Thomas (61) and McCaffrey (59) had as many targets as Woods, who ranked fourth in receptions and fifth in receiving yards during that stretch.

On a per-game basis, Woods averaged 11.8 targets, 7.8 receptions and 103 scrimmage yards per game in December. During that span, Woods ranked as a top-six fantasy wide receiver across all scoring formats -- WR5 (PPR and half-PPR) and WR6 (non-PPR).

Higbee's breakout performance wasn't as kind to Cooper Kupp. While Kupp scored a touchdown in each of the final five games of the 2019 regular season, his per-game splits in targets, receptions and yards took a hit during Higbee's breakout.

The deadline for players to opt out of the 2020 NFL season due to the COVID-19 global pandemic was August 6th.

Three teams (Chargers, Falcons and Steelers) had no opt-outs while the Patriots (eight) had the most.

29. Tyrese Maxey, Kentucky

A compact, score first combo guard who can light it up from downtown. He fell off a bit after a hot start and struggled with consistency and efficiency. Still, he's a lights-out shooter who should benefit from the space in the NBA game.

29. Tyrese Maxey, Kentucky

Tyrese Maxey is an impressive athlete who plays bigger than his 6-foot-3 frame, thanks to his 6-foot-6 wingspan. The offense often ran through him at Kentucky, and he averaged 0.93 points per possession as the ball handler in pick-and-roll sets -- which ranked in the 86th percentile among NCAA players. He also has an above-average floater, which he hit at an impressive rate. But his lack of an elite skill specialty could see him fall a bit in the draft. However, considering he is the only known top prospect to have signed with the Klutch Sports Group (the agency that represents Los Angeles superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis), it is difficult to imagine Maxey slipping past the Lakers.

29. Cassius Winston, Michigan State

Winston did not have the season many of us expected him to have as a senior -- understandably, given the death of his brother in November -- but he still put up All-American numbers for a team that won a share of the Big Ten regular season title. He was playing his best basketball down the stretch, and he still have the highest basketball IQ of anyone in this 2020 NBA mock draft. He's an elite passer and shooter that thrives in ball-screens. Yes, the defense and athleticism are concerns, but we said the same thing about numerous point guards that have made careers out of being backup point guards. Winston is the next in that pipeline.

Austin Hendrick, OF, West Allegheny HS (Pa.)

Arizona would love a bat here and Hendrick is the best one available if it goes down this way. If he's gone, they could go the college arm route with someone like Georgia's Cole Wilcox.

The Athletic - Law (6/3)
Ed Howard, SS, Mount Carmel (Ill.) HS

The Mike Hazen D-Backs went big on upside last year, and their biggest successes to date in the draft have come on high school position players. I know of teams in the 20s hoping Howard falls to them but also had sources above that indicate they don't think he gets out of the teens.

CBS Sports - Axisa (6/2)
OF Pete Crow-Armstrong, Harvard-Westlake High School (California)

Speedy outfielders with high-end contact skills are a popular target for the Diamondbacks under GM Mike Hazen and Crow-Armstrong fits perfectly. He's on the short list of the best defensive players in the draft, and if the power he started to show prior to the shutdown is real, he could be a steal at this pick.

Nick Bitsko, RHP, Central Bucks East HS (PA)

Neither Bitsko nor Hendrick played a game this spring (Hendrick was heavily scouted last summer, Bitsko had not yet reclassified), and though I disagree with it, there's real risk it will impact where they're taken.

Nick Bitsko, RHP, Central Bucks HS East (Doylestown, Pa.)

Since reclassifying into the 2020 Draft in January, the only time Bitsko pitched for scouts came in a March 4 bullpen workout. The lack of looks amplifies the high-school-righty risk that worries many teams, but the upside of three plus pitches with similar command is hard to ignore. The D-backs could go with Crow-Armstrong's polished bat and hope Bitsko gets to their supplemental first-round selection at No. 33, but that seems increasingly less likely.

ESPN - McDaniel (5/26)
Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF, Harvard Westlake High School (California), Vanderbilt commit

The D-backs are another team that seems to have zeroed in on a specific type (contact-first, up-the-middle prep bats) and has gotten solid recent results with that approach (Alek Thomas, Corbin Carroll). Crow-Armstrong fits it to a T. It isn't a coincidence that the other best fit to that type in the first round, Robert Hassell, is Arizona's other heavily rumored target.

For their next pick, the D-backs are rumored to be targeting some upside prep arms, and one in particular, Bitsko, fits their preference (high slot, high spin, fastball/curveball) very well. Bitsko is already off the board in this mock, but he's a real option at this pick or with Arizona's second pick, if he makes it that far. Clayton Beeter is rising and fits Arizona's type well, but he'll likely go between Arizona's two picks.
