2012 NFL Power Rankings - Week 5
Week: Post-Draft - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 17
 
Through one-quarter of the NFL season, there are, still, three 3-0 teams although it took overtime for the unlikeliest of those unbeatens to maintain their unblemished record.

On a short week, the Cardinals will look to become the first team to win five games this season as they head to St. Louis, where the Rams are 2-0 this season, for a primetime Thursday Night Football matchup.

Surprisingly, no division in football has more wins than the NFC West teams (11). Along with the NFC East, the NFC West is one of two divisions where all four teams have a .500 or better record.

Here are some stats on this week's consensus rankings:

- Biggest jump from last update: Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Rams (4.75)
- Biggest drop from last update: New York Jets (-7.00)
- Team with widest difference between high and low rank: Carolina Panthers (10)

With each update, we always all respond to one roundtable question. This update's roundtable topic: When will the Saints get their first win of the 2012 season?

Certainly the season-long loss of head coach Sean Payton hurts the Saints, but their offense isn't bad. Drew Brees leads the NFL in passing yards (1,350) and has a 10:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio although he has completed only 57.6 percent of his pass attempts. That would tie a career low set in San Diego in 2003.

The real problem, however, is the team's inability to stop anybody. They have allowed 27 points or more every week and a league-worst 463.3 yards per game.

That said, I can't see the Saints starting 0-5. Not that I expect the Saints to make the playoffs, because I don't, but the only team to ever start 0-4 and make the postseason was the Chargers (1992), who they host this weekend. The Saints will get their first win of the season this week.

The Saints will win their first game on Sunday night at home against the Chargers. They played pretty awful to blow the home game Week 3 against the Chiefs, but they were highly competitive in Green Bay and only lost by a point. They still have a potent offense, and with the Chargers as inconsistent as they are, I expect Drew Brees to help give New Orleans their first win of the year.

I know the Saints are really on the slide, but they will get their first win this week at home vs. the Chargers. Drew Brees is still one of the best quarterbacks in the game, and the Saints do have one of the best home fields in the league. The Chargers are always prone to not playing well in prime time, and the Superdome will be rocking on Sunday night . I love the Saints this week, as they will finally find just enough to get the job done.

This Saints team is a lot different from the Saints teams of old. I guess we see just how valuable a head coach is. Do the Pats win any of those Super Bowls without Bill Belichick? I don't think so. The Saints are struggling on both sides of the ball, but mainly on defense. If you look at their schedule, you don't see that game where you think "layup." The Saints could lose at home this week vs. San Diego because their pass defense is very bad.

Here are their upcoming games after their Week 6 bye:

- Week 7: A tough road division game on grass vs. the Bucs.
- Week 8: On the road vs. Peyton and the Broncos.
- Weeks 9 and 10: At home against division leaders Philly and Atlanta.
- Week 11: They have a road contest at Oakland.

I think this is the only game in this stretch where I would have confidence in saying New Orleans will win. This team is so bad on defense that they could win only 3-4 games all year. I think their first win is Week 7 vs. the Bucs. The Saints are going to struggle against good QBs this year.
