Through 12 weeks of the 2012 NFL season, the leading rusher is the guy that everyone expected, Minnesota's Adrian Peterson.
Wait, what?
Despite tearing his ACL at the end of the 2011 regular season, Peterson is the NFL's leading rusher and has five consecutive 100-yard games despite facing tough run defenses like Seattle, Tampa Bay and Chicago during that span.
In fact, he's not just leading the NFL in rushing.
He's on pace to set a personal best, and for a running back with the talent of Peterson, that says something.
Back in 2008, Peterson rushed for 1,760 yards. This year, he's on pace for 1,798 yards.
Will Adrian Peterson set a career high in rushing yards this year?
Kevin (follow Kevin on Twitter):
A physical freak of nature, Peterson has exceeded even the most optimistic of expectations.
Through Week 12, he has a commanding lead among the league leaders in rushing as Houston's Arian Foster trails him by 172 yards despite having 56 more carries than AP. In fact, all four of the league's 1,000-yard rushers to this point have more carries than Peterson, who is averaging a whopping 5.8 yards per carry.
Despite three of his past four games being against top-12 rush defenses, Peterson is averaging 7.6 yards per carry and 146.0 yards per game during that span.
To me, it does not matter who he faces the rest of the way. The guy is a freak and it's like the surgery made him a new-and-improved Adrian Peterson.
I say he maintains his pace and finishes with a new career high.
John (follow John on Twitter):
Adrian Peterson is going to get awfully close to his career high in rushing yards, and at the moment, is just barely on pace to set a new high water mark. Whether he gets there or not, it appears that AP is Superman.
The guy is coming off an ACL injury that some speculated would have him missing up to half the season. Instead, he's leading the league in rushing, and if he continues his pace for the last quarter of the season, will hit 1,800 yards.
It's tough to root against this guy with the toughness he's shown, and I'm not going to say that a career year is something he can't do; not after what I've seen from him so far. I think Peterson will hit 1,800 yards and break his own personal best for yards in a season.
Dan (follow Dan on Twitter):
Adrian Peterson will set a new career high in rushing this year, and it will be the most amazing feat since he is not even one year removed from tearing his ACL and MCL. Peterson's previous career high was rushing for 1760 yards and he averaged 4.8 yards per carry.
Through 11 games, Peterson has 1236 yards and averages an eye-popping 5.8 yards per carry so far this year.
In the five remaining games he has left, Peterson only has to average more than 104.8 yards per game to eclipse his previous career high. Peterson is by far your comeback player of the year, and will set a personal best after having a career-threatening injury.
Sean (follow Sean on Twitter):
No, AP has two games left vs. top 10-rush defenses, and two games left vs. Green Bay, who I think will beat the Vikings up, and force them to abandon the run a bit. I think AP finishes with 1650 yards for the year.

All of our rankings are from owner Kevin Hanson, who finished third overall in accuracy by FantasyPros in 2011.
Here's what FantasyPros wrote (about Hanson) in their year-end announcement of accuracy results:
"... Hanson was a fixture in the top 5 throughout the season and even led the contest heading into the final week. He also owns the distinction as being the only expert to eclipse the 70% PAY™ mark for a single position. ... Simply put, if you needed QB advice in 2011, the ultimate source to go to was over at EDSFootball. That’s not to say that Hanson was a one-trick pony, however. He also earned a top 10 rating at both WR (# 3) & RB (# 8), demonstrating that he’s among the best of the best when it comes to fantasy prognostication."
