Fantasy Football Mock Draft Per Day (August 17th): 12 teams, No. 10 pick, PPR

Back on May 27th, we began our 2014 fantasy football mock draft per day series using our site's mock draft simulator (powered by FantasyPros).

As we continue through the offseason, I will continue to complete a mock draft every day as I vary the scoring format, league size, draft slot, etc. and today's mock is a 12-team league using point-per-reception (PPR) scoring and I have the No. 10 pick.

Here are my picks in today's mock draft:

1.10 - Eddie Lacy, RB, Green Bay Packers
2.03 - Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons
3.10 - Peyton Manning, QB, Denver Broncos
4.03 - Julius Thomas, TE, Denver Broncos
5.10 - Joique Bell, RB, Detroit Lions
6.03 - Mike Wallace, WR, Miami Dolphins
7.10 - Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints
8.03 - Bishop Sankey, RB, Tennessee Titans
9.10 - Golden Tate, WR, Detroit Lions
10.03 - Brandin Cooks, WR, New Orleans Saints
11.10 - DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Houston Texans
12.03 - Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee Titans
13.10 - Lance Dunbar, RB, Dallas Cowboys
14.03 - Cincinnati Bengals D/ST
15.10 - Nick Novak, K, San Diego Chargers

Some notes about my team (view full mock here):

  • QBs: It's not too often that I end with a team that has as talented of a QB1, RB1, WR1 and TE1 as this team has. My general QB strategy is to take a top-three QB (as early as Round 3) or wait until as late as I can for someone like Jay Cutler, who was one of two QBs on my undervalued players list. Expecting a repeat performance of Manning's record-setting season would be foolish, but I do think that he leads the position in fantasy points once again (see my fantasy football projections). It is fairly close with Aaron Rodgers, however. The gap between the top three and my QB4 (Matthew Stafford) is as large as it is from QB4 to QB12.

  • RBs: I'm surprised that Lacy slipped to No. 10. In a PPR league, I'd take him sixth overall after my top-four RBs and Megatron. A workhorse back as a rookie, Lacy led the league in games with 20-plus carries and only LeSean McCoy (1,139) had more rushing yards than Lacy (1,127) from Week 5 on. In Green Bay's high-powered offense, Lacy has an excellent chance to score double-digit TDs again and could see his receptions increase as the Packers look to increase the tempo of their offense. After last year's breakout season, Bell should see his workload increase and finish inside the top-20 fantasy RBs once again. Thomas, who led all RBs with 77 catches last year, is a much better option in PPR formats and a solid RB2 (or flex in this case). I can't imagine Sankey being available in the eighth round of many drafts, but you won't get any complaints from me. Finally, Dunbar has upside as my RB5 considering the durability risk of DeMarco Murray, but I expect his role to increase either way.

  • WRs: Before his foot injury sidelined him, Jones was leading the league with a career-high 116.0 yards per game. Provided he stays healthy, Jones has a legitimate shot at finishing as the top-scoring fantasy WR in 2014. Either way, he's an elite WR1. With back-to-back seasons of sub-1,000 yards, Wallace is nice bounce-back candidate in Bill Lazor's up-tempo offense. As the No. 2 receiver opposite Megatron, Tate will have countless one-on-one opportunities to exploit and should post career numbers in his first season in the Motor City. Only Keenan Allen had more yards than Hopkins as a rookie last season and he should be able to build upon last year's success. Hunter won't be available in the 12th round of many drafts in the future, but he is a high-upside guy that appeared on list of wide receiver sleepers.

  • TEs: Thomas had a breakout season last year with 63 receptions for 764 yards and 12 TDs. With Eric Decker leaving via free agency, Thomas has an excellent chance of scoring double-digit TDs again and he is a clear-cut top-three fantasy tight end this year.
