Fantasy Football Mock Draft Per Day (July 16th): 14 teams, No. 7 pick

Back on May 27th, we began our 2014 fantasy football mock draft per day series using our site's mock draft simulator (powered by FantasyPros).

As we continue through the offseason, I will continue to complete a mock draft every day as I vary the scoring format, league size, draft slot, etc. and today's mock is a 14-team using standard scoring and I have the No. 7 pick.

Here are my picks in today's mock draft:

1.07 - Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit Lions
2.08 - Zac Stacy, RB, St. Louis Rams
3.07 - Toby Gerhart, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
4.08 - Roddy White, WR, Atlanta Falcons
5.07 - Michael Floyd, WR, Arizona Cardinals
6.08 - Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints
7.07 - Jordan Reed, TE, Washington
8.08 - Jeremy Hill, RB, Cincinnati Bengals
9.07 - Hakeem Nicks, WR, Indianapolis Colts
10.08 - Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears
11.07 - Rueben Randle, WR, New York Giants
12.08 - Charles Sims, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
13.07 - Cincinnati Bengals D/ST
14.08 - Greg Jennings, WR, Minnesota Vikings
15.07 - Robbie Gould, K, Chicago Bears

Some notes about my team (view full mock here):

  • QBs: With 13 QBs off the board by pick 7.02, I figured I could play a game of chicken with the virtual mockers on Cutler for a few more rounds in this 14-team mock. In a real draft, I probably would have taken him at least a round earlier, but he's a tremendous bargain in Round 10. If you add up the fantasy points scored by Cutler and Josh McCown last season, their combined points would have been good enough for fourth among QBs.

  • RBs: Based on my rankings, Stacy and Gerhart give me two (low-end) RB1's in this 14-team league as I'm higher than most on Gerhart. Both Stacy and Gerhart should be high-volume backs in their respective low-powered offenses (both teams ranked in bottom three of total offense). While Thomas is a better option in PPR formats, he's solid as a RB3/flex and is a good value in Round 6. Hill and Sims are secondary options in their team's backfield, but they should carve out (potentially significant) roles as rookies and they provide some depth.

  • WRs: Megatron and will instantly be a dynamic fantasy WR duo, but I expect Roddy to bounce back to pre-2013 production. Injuries slowed him for much of the season, but only Josh Gordon and Alshon Jeffery had more yards than White (43 catches for 502 yards) in December. Floyd led the Cardinals in receiving yardage last season and has generated more buzz this offseason. Nicks, Randle and Jennings provide depth and some upside for my wide receiver corps.

  • TEs: The biggest concern about Reed is durability. Not only did he miss plenty of time during his rookie season due to a concussion last year, but he has had multiple concussions going back to his days at Florida. Based on his per-game averages in his nine games, however, he was on pace for 80/887/5 over 16 games. To put that into perspective, the last (also only) rookie tight end to reach 1,000 yards was Mike Ditka (1961). Jeremy Shockey (894 yards, 2002) is the only other rookie TE with at least 887 yards in a season.
