The Saturday Blitz

Derrick Mason has ended his retirement from the Baltimore Ravens and intends to return to practice tomorrow.

Bengals rookie Andre Smith, who is still unsigned, will have an opportunity to win the starting right tackle job once he shows up to camp.

The Raiders want to use more of Darren McFadden, who was selected fourth overall in last year's draft and only averaged 11 touches per game.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said of Barbi Bobby Carpenter, who is penciled in at nickel linebacker: "I think Bobby Carpenter’s done well. He looks good in the run, pass coverage looks good, he knows what to do and that’s a key thing. We put him in one position for a while, he’s been physical, athletic, all the things you’re looking for in a linebacker, so I look for Bobby to have a good year."

Speaking of Cowboys rookie Mike Mickens, Phillips said: “He's got great hands, Everson Walls kind of hands. He's got spectacular hands. I envision him being able to make plays ... because once he gets there, he has a chance to catch it.”

Giants DE after missing all of last season.

Packers rookie
B.J. Raji is not likely to be signed soon.

Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk took a $1,000 taxi ride from Minneapolis to Green Bay to get to OTAs in June when he was stranded in Minnesota.

Jets defensive tackle Kris Jenkins will miss a few days with a calf strain.

It was boos in the morning and cheers in the afternoon for 49ers quarterback Alex Smith.

The Colts have signed defensive tackle Fili Moala, their second-round pick, and wide receiver Austin Collie, their fourth-round choice.

Rookie defensive lineman Sammy Hill, rookie receiver Demir Boldin and veteran tackle Ephraim Salaam failed conditioning tests and were held out of practice Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots released punter Tom Malone.

The Jaguars reached a deal with Eben Britton, their second-round pick, on a four-year deal worth $4.6 million.

Denver Broncos defensive end Jarvis Moss, their first-round pick in 2007, is taking some time away from the team.

The Giants have signed their first-round pick Hakeem Nicks to a five-year deal worth $12.54 million.
