The London Patriots?

Per Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe, Patriots "owner Robert Kraft told Britain’s The Times last week that he believes an NFL team based in London would be a success and that he’d be interested in an ownership stake through his sons if possible."

London has hosted a regular-season NFL game for the past few years and the NFL is considering a second game there. Moreover, there are rumors that London will submit a bid to host the Super Bowl as early as the 2014 Super Bowl.

I suppose a road game in [Olde] England (compared to a road game in San Diego) is just as close for an east coast team like New England.

But if there were an NFL franchise in London, that franchise would have to travel a minimum of six hours (for U.S. east coast games) for eight regular-season away games plus two pre-season away games. I suppose that disadvantage would be somewhat counterbalanced by their distinct home-field advantage as other teams would have to travel the same distance for London's home games.

That being said, if the NFL were to expand abroad, which I don't think is necessary, it would make more sense to base a team in Canada or Mexico (to a lesser degree). As it is, Buffalo plays some home games in Toronto.
