Does Favre have a deadline to decide future?

According to ESPN, Brett Favre has until the end of this week to decide whether or not he will play for the Minnesota Vikings.

However, Pat Kirwan said on Sirius NFL Radio that β€œ...There is no deadline for Brett Favre to come in by Friday. There is zero deadline. The story was made up, it’s not true and trust me on that,” according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

So, what do we know?

We know there is either a deadline...or there's not. In other words, we know nothing more than we knew when news first broke that Favre had surgery last month.

However, having the surgery means that Favre wants to come back even if his body hasn't responded as well as he hoped.

If there is a deadline, it is because Brad Childress and the Vikings don't want to suffer the same summer of uncertainty that the Packers faced last year. And a deadline would help put some finality to the rumors.

That being said, Favre and finality are two words that are dangerous to use in the same sentence.

If there is a deadline, Childress needs to stick to it. Otherwise, if they bend the rules for Favre, what message does that send to the rest of the team?
