Patriots get TE Alex Smith for 2010 draft pick
The New England Patriots have acquired TE Alex Smith from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick next year.
The Buccaneers acquired Kellen Winslow Jr. from the Cleveland Browns and, in turn, made him the highest-paid tight end in the game. Jerramy Stevens is Winslow's backup.
Smith, who was the Buccaneers third-round pick in 2005, had 21 receptions for 250 yards and three touchdowns in 2008. He only had two receptions for 22 yards after week nine.
