Update: Charges dropped against Marshall
Broncos WR Brandon Marshall, who was arrested Sunday morning on disorderly conduct charges, had charges against him dismissed.
As PFT points out, getting arrested is as harmful to the league's image as is being convicted. After all, perception is often reality in most people's minds.
The NFL's Personal Conduct Policy also states that a player could still be "subject to discipline, even where the conduct itself does not result in conviction of a crime."
"Based on my investigation yesterday, he shouldn't have been charged in the first place and I was confident the charges would be dismissed," said Harvey Steinberg, Marshall's attorney. However, that doesn't mean that Marshall won't spend time in the NFL's dog house. According to Pro Football Talk, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says that the league “will look in to it.”
