Stallworth hits and kills pedestrian
Cleveland Browns WR Donte' Stallworth was questioned after driving into a pedestrian, who later died, in Miami Beach. Driving a two-door Bentley, Stallworth struck Mario Reyes as he was crossing the street to get to a bus stop Saturday morning shortly after 7 a.m.
Stallworth was cooperative in police questioning and had blood drawn to test for alcohol and drugs. Per Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal, Stallworth hasn't been cited and has been released on his own recognizance.
However, prosecutors could be preparing charges against Stallworth for DUI manslaughter. Per Pro Football Talk, sources have indicated that Stallworth admitted to drinking "at least four Patrons and two Margaritas," but that the last drink was consumed at midnight.
Also, Stallworth has indicated in his statement to police that "he saw the man crossing the street from a distance, and flashed the high beams and honked the horn." Seeing the man "from a distance" would imply that Stallworth should have been able to slow down to avoid hitting (and killing) Reyes if he were not speeding and/or drinking.
Stallworth, the first-round pick by the Saints in 2002, received a $4.75 million roster bonus from the Browns yesterday.
