LJ Smith is heading to Baltimore
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens and L.J. Smith have agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million.
The current tight ends on the Ravens' roster are Smith, Todd Heap, who started last year, Quinn Sypniewski and Edgar Jones.
Smith, who was designated with the franchise tag in 2008, played only 23 games in the past two seasons. After putting up back-to-back 600-yard seasons in 2005 and 2006, Smith's production, even after accounting for games missed due to injury, has declined.
In the past two seasons, Smith has posted 236 yards receiving and 298 yards receiving. His 22.9 receiving yards per game in 2008 was the second-lowest of his career. He averaged 21.4 receiving yards per game in his rookie season (2003).
