Larry Izzo signs with Jets
The New York Jets have signed special teams star Larry Izzo. Before signing with the Jets, Izzo played eight years with New England and five years with the Dolphins.
Izzo has 199 career special teams tackles, which is the all-time record. Special teams tackles have been tracked since 1994. Izzo has made the Pro Bowl 3 times (2000, 2002 and 2004).
This is a good move by the Jets as they continue to bolster their defense and special teams under new coach Rex Ryan. This off-season, the Jets have added LB Bart Scott, S/PR Jim Leonhard and now Izzo.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to play for the Jets and Mr. (Woody) Johnson," Izzo said in a statement. "I'm grateful for the chance to be reunited with Coach Westhoff, who played a key role early in my career, and look forward to playing for Coach Ryan as he brings his passionate, physical style of football to New York.''Mike Westhoff, the Jets special teams coach, coached Izzo in Miami.
