Is Vince Young still Titans QB of the future?
Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher says that Vince Young, taken with the 3rd overall pick in 2006, is still the team's "franchise QB."
Fisher says that 2009 isn't a make-or-break season. However, with Kerry Collins coming back as the starter for two more seasons, Young will be an expensive back-up in 2010. If he doesn't make much progress this year, it may not make fiscal sense to keep Young at that price.
Fisher also says that the team will add a third veteran QB.
"Vince is in a situation now where he will have to do everything he possibly can to earn his job back," Fisher said at the NFL owners' meetings in California. "That starts with the offseason commitment."Young, who has three years remaining on his contract, is due to earn $4.6 million in 2009, which is reasonable. However, his pay jumps to $7.5 million in 2010 and $8.5 million in 2011.

"I don't think you could put that type of pressure on a player. He's still a young quarterback with a lot of years left," Fisher said. The reason to not put that "type of pressure" on Young is because he doesn't appear to have the mental toughness to handle it. He has considered given up football and was described as "suicidal" early last season after being "missing" for a while. Fisher and the Titans said the report was "overblown."
