Should Browns pursue Terrell Suggs?
Baltimore Ravens free agent LB Terrell Suggs has suggested that he and fellow free-agent-to-be LBs Bart Scott and Ray Lewis offer a "hometown discount" to the Ravens.
But Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer says "money does change minds." Would Suggs be willing to pass on the "hometown discount" for something of an out-of-town premium?
Suggs is only 26 years old and has averaged nearly 9 sacks per season (53 sacks in 6 seasons).
As Pluto points out, Browns LB Kamerion Wimbley's sack production has declined each season. He had 11 in his rookie season (2006) and 9 in the past 2 years.
As a team, the Browns had 17 sacks in 2008. They were tied with the Bengals for 30th in the NFL in that category. In 2006 and 2007, they had 28 sacks each season.
D'Qwell Jackson, another Browns LB from the 2006 rookie class, led the team and the NFL in tackles with 154 in 2008.
Signing Suggs could take the pressure off Wimbley and help him return to his rookie form and really solidify this group of Browns' LBs.
Cleveland won't be the only team interested in Suggs this off-season, so if he makes it to free agency on the 27th, we'll soon find out if he puts his money (or lack thereof) where his mouth is.
