Chiefs trade for Mike Vrabel
The New England Patriots traded LB Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs. In return, the Patriots will receive an undisclosed draft pick.
Vrabel spent the past 8 years of his 12 NFL seasons with the Patriots. He played his first 4 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chiefs GM Scott Pioli joined the Patriots the year before Vrabel did.
Vrabel had a drop-off in production from 2007, his only Pro Bowl season, to 2008. However, he's still a solid player despite his age (33). Vrabel had 12.5 sacks in 2007, but only 4 sacks along with 62 tackles last year.
This move gives Pioli and the Chiefs some veteran leadership from the Patriots way of doing things. The Chiefs are notorious for their collection of whiners in the locker room including some of their most talented players - Larry Johnson, Tony Gonzalez, Brian Waters, etc.
