Hall of Fame's 17 finalists announced today

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced their 17 finalists for the Class of 2009 today. They are (in alphabetical order):
Cris Carter
Dermontti Dawson
Richard Dent
Russ Grimm
"Bullet" Bob Hayes - senior candidate
Claude Humphrey - senior candidate
Cortez Kennedy
Bob Kuechenberg
Randall McDaniel
John Randle - first-year eligible for HoF
Andre Reed
Shannon Sharpe - first-year eligible for HoF
Bruce Smith - first-year eligible for HoF
Paul Tagliabue
Derrick Thomas
Ralph Wilson
Rod Woodson - first-year eligible for HoF
The candidates will be narrowed down to 7 candidates (5 modern-era and 2 senior). From there, the committee will select at least 4 and no more than 7 players for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The announcement will be made on 1/31 at 2:30 p.m. The enshrinement will take place on August 8th in Canton, Ohio.
